High quality factors such as prime location, vineyard management/hand-tended vines, low yields rigorous fruit selection, a state of the art winery, a competent winemaker with the latest winemaking tools/equipment and the best quality French oak barrels all come at enormous costs. In truth, it is difficult to produce a superlative, knock out bottle of wine every vintage . . . but we try.
At Kenefick Ranch, the wine-making begins in the vineyard and is completed in the cellar – our philosophy places equal emphasis on both. We use native yeasts, hand-crafted techniques and new French Oak integration to produce new world wines with soft tannins and a naturally higher acidity. “Our philosophy is to achieve perfect equilibrium, offering approachability at an early age, but with enough structure to cellar for ten to twenty years,” says winemaker Kent Jarman. Heavier crop loads and a very cool growing season allowed for some ideal extended hang time. Perfect fall weather gave way to even ripeness patiently brought in throughout the valley.
Baker's chocolate, fine tobacco leaf, and a brooding dark fruit profile form an intense nose. Balanced tannin to oak ratios supports the jammy and refined fresh berry profile.
The low yielding Clone 6 block is intense in color, structure, and complexity. The Clone 15 sets the fresh berry tones for the blend. These together make this an incredible wine. Flashed in new oak and some extended aging, this is a great wine to cellar for a bit. Integrated oak with the fine tannin structure allow for an excellent mid palate and long finish.
