About Kenefick
Ranch Winery
Almost 25 years ago, in the midst of a successful and respected career
as a neurosurgeon, including training at the Mayo Clinic, and tenures
as Chief of Neurosurgery at California Pacific Medical Center and St.
Mary’s Hospital & Medical Center in San Francisco, Dr. Thomas
Kenefick fell in love with the Napa Valley and became fascinated with
the correlation between vines and disease. Over time, he acquired
125 acres of vineyard property in the foothills of the Palisades Mountains
in Calistoga.
After creating a world class vineyard, growing grapes for some of
the most prestigious wineries in the Valley, in 2002 he decided to
produce his own wines, and with the inaugural release of his 2002 Kenefick
Ranch Cabernet, a new winery was born! While only 384 cases of
this first vintage were released to an overwhelmingly enthusiastic
reception, the 2003 production was expanded in both volume and offerings
to include 910 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 490 cases of Cabernet
Franc, named after his daughter Caitlin.
In the coming years, plans are being made to build a winery on the
vineyard land in order to ultimately produce estate grown and bottled
wines. The goal will be to continue to produce exceptional
red wines – including a classic Bordeaux blend with all five
Bordeaux varietals, and add a white blend to the mix.
